The company is a Portugal-based private enterprise, which is primarily engaged in the operation and management of a chain of supermarket offering a wide variety of food and household merchandise, organized into departments. The company was founded by the Font Vives and Vallés García's families, in the 1963 as little grocery shop located in the centre of the Moraira's village in a 80m2 local. It has a registered head office in Teulada, Spain. The company's supermarkets typically comprise meat, fresh produce, dairy, and baked goods departments along with shelf space reserved for canned and packaged goods as well as for various nonfood items such as household cleaners, pharmacy products, and pet supplies. Most of its supermarkets also sell a variety of other household products that are consumed regularly, such as alcohol (where permitted), household cleaning products, medicine, clothes, and some sell a much wider range of nonfood products. The company offers a wider variety of food and nonfood items than its standard supermarkets, including a large number of convenience and specialty departments, such as gas stations, full-service pharmacies, office supplies, portrait studios, and photo shops.
